Enabling interoperability in high-performance embedded applications

OpenVPX expands on the VPX Base and Dot Specifications and provides a System Specification to address interoperability issues between VPX modules and Chassis. OpenVPX is an extensible specification which addresses the current and future needs for computing in harsh environments.

Risk management for counterfeit materials

Counterfeit materials will continue to challenge the defensive capabilities of manufacturers in the military and aerospace industry.

Early verification and validation using model-based design

One of the primary benefits of model-based design is the opportunity to do rigorous verification and validation in parallel with all other development steps, especially early in the development process.

Smarter products - software becomes the most active ingredient

As software becomes the most active ingredient in product innovation, traditional manufacturers are essentially becoming software companies. While this transformation is sparking unprecedented leaps in product value, it is also introducing new challenges and implications.

Building ultra-slim embedded systems with Em-ITX

Building a slimline or thinline embedded system can be a difficult task or a relatively simple one depending on the form factor chosen for the task. But how slim is slim enough?

Meilhaus: multi-functional remote measurement- and control module

Meilhaus Electronic presents their latest development in measurement and control modules – the ME-7 also known as the ME-Axon. Depending on the model the device is connected to a USB 2.0 or a 10/100Base-T Ethernet/LAN interface of a PC. With its rugged metal housing it can be used as table-top device or integrated into a 19” rack. The ME-Axon’s main feature is the ability to measure currents at 7 different measurement ranges from 250 µA up to a maximum of 50A without interruptions when switching between the ranges. The additional analogue inputs of the module have a rating of up to ±10 V. Signal conditioning modules can be connected to acquire data from thermocouples, RTDs, bridges, differential currents or voltages. The max. A/D- conversion rate is 500 kHz with a resolution of 16 bit. For control applications the device has digital TTL I/O channels, 4 analog outputs with a voltage output of ±10 V (also at 500 kHz) and 3 counters.

An ME-4670 I/O measurement card is at the heart of the system. Therefore the ME-Axon is also supported under the ME-iDS software driver platform for Windows and Linux. On this basis the developer can choose amongst many different software environments to design his individual application. Standard programming languages such as C/C++/C#, VisualBasic, Delphi or Python are supported in addition to LabVIEW or Agilent VEE Pro.
