Enabling interoperability in high-performance embedded applications

OpenVPX expands on the VPX Base and Dot Specifications and provides a System Specification to address interoperability issues between VPX modules and Chassis. OpenVPX is an extensible specification which addresses the current and future needs for computing in harsh environments.

Risk management for counterfeit materials

Counterfeit materials will continue to challenge the defensive capabilities of manufacturers in the military and aerospace industry.

This Video is presented by Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing’s VPX6-185 6U VPX single board computer is a high performance rugged processing platform.

Early verification and validation using model-based design

One of the primary benefits of model-based design is the opportunity to do rigorous verification and validation in parallel with all other development steps, especially early in the development process.

Smarter products - software becomes the most active ingredient

As software becomes the most active ingredient in product innovation, traditional manufacturers are essentially becoming software companies. While this transformation is sparking unprecedented leaps in product value, it is also introducing new challenges and implications.

Building ultra-slim embedded systems with Em-ITX

Building a slimline or thinline embedded system can be a difficult task or a relatively simple one depending on the form factor chosen for the task. But how slim is slim enough?

Kontron: industrial servers for complex visualization tasks

Thanks to the new PCI Express Butterfly Backplane, the long-term available Kontron Industrial Silent Server (KISS) 2U may be flexibly and cost-efficiently equipped with up to 4 PCI Express x4 cards and one PCI Express x16 card. Based on a PICMG 1.3 CPU board, the processor performance is also flexibly scalable at any time.

The highly integrated and thus space-saving 2U industrial server is especially suited for complex visualization and image processing tasks that require the independent operation of up to 8 high-definition monitors or the integration of 4 PCI Express x4 frame grabber cards for machine vision or video surveillance. The high bandwidth of up to 8 GB/s also enables graphic-intensive simulations for weather forecasting, digital mock-ups, or virtual reality for operator training. By integrating CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture)-compliant graphics cards, the KISS 2U PCIe can act as a compact supercomputer (with around 500 gigaflops), greatly accelerating complex image processing operations through parallel processing.

The KISS-2U industrial server with compact PICMG 1.3 system host boards packs scalable processor performance up to an Intel Core 2 Quad processor and up to 8 gigabytes of DDR2 dual-channel RAM. Equipped with the Kontron PCI-760, the long-term available 2U industrial servers offer up to 3x Gb Ethernet, 8x USB 2.0, 2 x RS232C, and HD audio. The integrated Intel GMA 3100 Graphics Media Accelerator provides resolutions up to QXGA (2048 x 1536) at 75 Hz via VGA. For highest data throughput, an integrated RAID (RAID 0/1/5/10) controller for SATA drives can improve speed and/or data safety. Application-specific extensions are adaptable via a Type IIA miniPCI connector. Specific Kontron extensions are available for LAN, WLAN, and SCSI. The highly integrated Kontron KISS 2U PCIe supports Linux and the complete Windows desktop and server range including the new Windows 7.
